A spoon full of sugar...

Let’s play catch-up shall we?!

My ‘spanic ass has been sickly so that explains why I have been missing in action. I hate being sick! It even caused me to miss a few days of work – that I am not complaining about! Any day I get to sleep in is a good one… especially on a work day! =) Anyhoo, a couple of weeks ago I developed a cough – which sucks… really, really, really sucks! It could have been worse, but my trip to SF for Folsom was right around the corner. Damn it! Being sick never stopped me from doing anything in the past so why should it make a difference now?! =)

A few weekends ago I attended some very fun events…

Friday night, I headed up to the NuArt with Timofy. We caught the midnight screening of “Clue” with Sins O’ The Flesh performing along with the movie. It was surprisingly better than I had imagined. I nodded off a couple of times, but was awaken both times by the vulgar comments being shouted from the audience – loved it. “I… am… your signing telegram” *bang!*

Saturday continued the Midnight Movie experience as Woodsy and I trailed up to La Jolla to see “Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory” at the Landmark. I luckily avoided getting hit by any of the gigantic Wonka bars they were throwing out into the audience! It was so cool to see the original up on the big screen since I just saw the Tim Burton redux within the past few months. I could not believe how much build up there was before you even got into the factory! The Veruca in the original is way more evil and bratty than the one in the update. I also like Ms. Salt being called a bad egg versus a bad nut – although the squirrels were much cooler than the geese. “Violet, your turning Violet, Violet!”

The weekend came to a close Sunday evening when I caught the Back 2 Cool concert at SDSU’s Open Air Theatre. I got there late due to the fact that I was stuffing damn good Salmon in my mouth – thanks Woods! Finch had just finished their set when we were frisked at the gates by security. I was a bit confused, was I attending a Fidy Cent concert?! Anyhow, I stopped at the concession stand to purchase a sodie and a thick hot dog – yum, and yes it was mighty thick. *drool*

Oh yeah, the concert… The Bravery came on stage for a solid set which included the front man acting like a jack ass. He was really trying hard to “shock” the audience by jumping around on stage like a cryin', hollerin' bratty child found in any aisle of any Wal-Mart. He tried to “shock” us even more by spitting all over the place between lyrics. The topper had to be when he spit in the air only to catch it back in his mouth. Now for that moment I thought I was at BlowBuddies – think about it, crack out queen spitting and catching it in his mouth – sounds like a busy night with some studs at my favorite Sex Club in SF! ;-) Regardless, The Bravery’s performance was definitely more entertaining than their “supposed” clones The Killers – who have no stage presence btw!

Next up was Bloc Party who came all the way from the UK. The front man had a blue hanky in his back pocket! That Cop Sucker! =) I really enjoyed Bloc Party. Their drummer was one of the best I have seen live – truly dazzling. Highly recommended.

At that point, I needed some nachos.

Then I had to use the little boy’s room… and the bathroom smelled of pot.

Interpol took the stage soon after and they were considered the “main course”. I saw Interpol months ago at SOMA (ack!). Their stage show wasn’t much different than the one at SOMA. The lighting was still awesome. The boys put on a good show, altho nothing spectacular. CarlosD did his usual “Cool Goth” routine and chained smoke the entire time. My only request was for them to play “Slow Hands” – and they did. =)

The weekend was pretty damn eventful as you can see… and I was in “deep thought” the majority of the time. I guess I was trying to figure some shit out, but of course, I am still dealing with “that shit” in my head. =/

Garbage without those pesky Europeans!

Last night's Garbage show was fucking amazing. I truly enjoyed myself even tho it was held at the shittiest venue in San Diego - SOMA. For those of you who don't know about SOMA, let me inform you that the place is just vile. It is so disgusting, I wouldn't even dream of having sex there - and some of you know that I would do it just about anywhere. SOMA does not serve any alcohol due to the fact that it accommodates all ages. And last night I was dying for a beer! *sigh*

Anyhoo, The Start opened the show about 8 o'clock. The Start is a female fronted band from Southern California. Throw in some old Cure, some Punk meets New Wave meets Electro and you have The Start. Altho their sound is not completely original, I did like their performance very much. The lead singer looked as if she was a PB girl reject dipped in a vat of Silverlake make over. Her black gothic prom dress looked like something Karen O would wear - think the Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Maps" video. Her hair was a hybrid of skunk blonde and black cut with an avant-garde slant. I would say she looked like DH (the Arizona Street apartment manager), but that would be an insult to her. Her voice was reminiscent of Amanda Ghost's, raspy but sorry to say not as fiery. I will no doubt be picking up their CD sometime in the future. I was quite fond of the outfits the guys in the band were wearing - tight black buttoned up shirts, tight long sleeved shirts, tight black sweater vest, tight pants - ahem, the common theme is tight. I guess I will be skirting the little boys' section soon for some "tight" clothes. =)

And let me mentioned the sound system at SOMA sucks dirty ass.

After The Start finished their set, there was a brief intermission so I ran up to the concession stand to grab some water and Doritos. And of course, my observations began. I noticed an adequate amount of fags, lesbians who were apparently planning to meet Shirley, older straight women with their "I live and work in La Jolla, but I'm really a rocker by heart" boyfriends, and younger-ish OB couples - which was a oddity for SOMA since every time I have been by there, all I ever see are high school kids getting dropped off by their moms. Let me say that the best part about the crowd last night was there was this "respect my space" vibe - which is definitely a nice touch at any concert.

At about 9 o'clock the lights dimmed to dark and the crowd began to roar. Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" blared out of the speakers. As the song played, members of Garbage began filling the stage one by one. The amount of noise from the crowd increased as each member assumed their positions. During the last few seconds song, Shirley walked out. The crowd went berserk. The blood drenched lighting glowed on stage as they broke into "Queer", which for me was one of the first Garbage songs I heard back in 1995 - I was working at the AMC El Con 6 with Burchie, Stella, and Kale. Oh the memories attached to their first album! *sigh* A couple of songs later and after getting settled in, Shirley thanked the crowd for being there even tho the expression on her face sang a different tune. She looked like she was totally ready to beat a bitch's ass. She had told the band at one point "let's go for fuck's sake". One thing about Shirl is if she is not a happy camper, you can so feel it. Altho not long after, Shirley began to open up and letting go of the bad juju - maybe it was the Whiskey setting in or she was getting a contact high from the joint that was being lit up by the Rasta dude over in the center of the floor - did he not think to puff puff pass to me?! Anyhow, she was interacting with the crowd, showing some thigh, seductively sticking out her tongue, graciously receiving gifts from the audience - like a feathered boa she would later strut with during "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go)". You could totally tell at that point she was loving it. Her mood ring was no longer a cruddy brown. The set was filled with a good mix of songs from their catalogue of 4 albums. The show went on for over an hour - insert encore here - with the crowd chanting "Garbage", they all returned in a few minutes for 3 more songs. When you include the encore, the concert reached about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Before they started the first encored song, Shirley mentioned that the song they were about to do was her favorite from the new album - "Bleed Like Me". She spoke of self loathing, along with the image we have of ourselves - hence, the meaning of the song. I strongly suggest you listen to "Bleed Like Me", even if you are not a Garbage fan. This song is very moving - ugh, I sound like one of those cheesy music critics. Regardless, it is one of my most favorite songs of theirs.

Oh yeah, did I mention the sound at SOMA sucks dirty ass?!

Now I know I've been rambling on, but I do have to say one other thing - the stage design was awesome. I wish there had been a camera around for me to have snapped a pic - forgot Woodsick's cam at home. Picture this… the band on stage, Shirley dead center, Butch behind her on drums, Steve on the left, Duke on the right, the elusive tour only 5th member (Eric - I think?) hovering in the background between Duke and Butch. Behind all of them are four evenly positioned monitors. These are scattered along the back of the stage where a huge black wall with tiny little lights stands - think a gigantic Lite Brite (you know, the ones we had as kids). During each song, the monitors would show various images like American Flags ("Metal Heart"), a mouth of a man ("Shut Your Mouth"), outtakes of Shirley from videos ("Why Do You Love Me?"), clouds ("Happy Home"), flames ("Bad Boyfriend"), and so on. Many times the images on the screen would be emulated with the tiny lights on that black hole of a wall. One of the most visually stimulating performances of the evening was "Sex Is Not The Enemy" where some of my favorite words were plastered across the screens - slut, cunt, tart, whore, etc. I completely loved it.

Shirley had addressed the rumors about the notorious split and assured the audience after 10 years of being together, they were not going anywhere. Woohoo for fans like me - ugh, now I sound like a groupie. In my opinion, this had easily become my favorite Garbage performance regardless of the venue and sound. Goes to show that no matter how bad the place is, if the band is great, you are going to have a one hell of a time - even if you have to stand under a cold ass A/C vent for over an hour.

The cherry has been popped!

Hello!

I have FINALLY started my blog! Yes I know… it was about time. I DID have some obstacles to overcome tho like not being able to create an account or have any pics of my activities to post! But as you can see I accomplished one of the two. =)

I attempted to create an account yesterday via the Woodsy's iBook, but for some reason the website did not like the browser I was using. Damn the IE and Apple combination! After an hour and a half of troubleshooting, I gave up to focus on more interesting activities - like showering. *cough* Ok ok you got me, I wasn't really troubleshooting as I was actually screwing around online. It's been a while since I just vegged online. A girl needs to catch up on e-mail, porn, gossip, and the upcoming Halloween activities, alright! Well I did decided to try to create an account today using a PC. Tah Dah! It worked out perfectly and here I am.

As far as the pics go, I don't have any from this past weekend. I originally had planned to snap a few of me with some trannies at Dragstrip, but that was a bust - the batteries died as I tried to take a pic with Koko! Damn it! The Photo Gods just were not on my side that evening because that pic would have been good.

Oh well… here is a weekend recap for those of you who care…

Friday night was a bust as I was running behind due to me getting out of work late. V was tired and decided to stay in so I hung out with V for a few at her place to catch up on what was going on in each other's lives. V did have a chance to sit in Betina where I introduced her to Avenue D. Do I look like a slut?!

Saturday afternoon was filled with me going through bags of my crap that had been gathering dust in the garage since the big move. Woods and I decided to head up to LA for Dragstrip late in the evening. It was Betina's inaugural drive up to my favorite city. I think we got to La La Land about 11:15pm and made it into club about 11:30pm. Not even five minutes into the lobby, we run into Armando and his crew. Hellos and introductions were exchanged and I was off to have a beer - and boy did I need one after the past week! The club was mixed as always - lesbians, straights, trannies, drag queens, bi's, Silverlake & WeHo spots, and, of course, out of town gays! A finished beer and a dance later the stage show started with MC Gina doing her usual thing. The show ran long due to Elaine Lancaster bombarding the stage with her crap about hosting the PETA show with Pam Anderson. Elaine is a flawless looking queen, but unfortunately had a flawed stage presence. The arrogance was laid on thick with the word "bitch" being used over and over again. I must say that is my first time I have laid my eyes on an arrogant drag queen. I have encounter many drag queens who were bitchy, sarcastic, drunk… but never arrogant. Needless to say the intoxicated fags were yelling for her to get off the stage. The show ended and I continued my observations.

One of the highlights of the night was being molested by three passing drag queens as I hung out in the hallway alone. They told me I was "looking all innocent" as they groped me. You all know that I am anything but innocent so I quite enjoyed the groping! Of course, not one thought in my mind was to take a pic. Damn! An opportunity missed… oh well, next time. The night ended with Woods and I making our way over to WeHo for a late night snack at Los Tacos - OMG, the beans are awesome. *calms down*

To end the weekend, I caught a screening of "The Aristocrats" at the Landmark Hillcrest. Well so much for the hype, I was a bit disappointed. Even tho the reviews claimed it was "fall out of your chair funny", I didn't fall out of my chair. It wasn't complete shit tho, there were some good parts which I laughed at - like the South Park retelling of the joke and Robin Williams' two cents. It could have been worse, right?!

There you have it, my first blog entry. Not sure when I will have another one. Hopefully I will have some good things to write about as I will be attending the Garbage concert this week. I am still trying to decide if I should go see "Clue" on Friday night at the NuArt or the original "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory" in La Jolla.

Decisions, decisions!
